If you are a parent, you have discovered that raising kids is an incredible (and challenging) responsibility! Our heart's desire is to encourage families and one of the ways that we do that is through our annual Parent and Child Dedication service.
What is parent/child dedication?
By participating in our Parent and Child Dedication service, you are acknowledging that your child belongs to God and you are committing to teaching biblical values to your family. You are also inviting your church family to be a part of your child’s spiritual development. Parent/child dedication is very different from baptism as it makes no claim of salvation for the child. Instead, it represents the parent’s promise to provide a home focused on Jesus and his love.
What can we expect from the church?
As your church community, we'll be by your side, ready to cheer you on and offer our support! We are also committed to providing Bible based teachings and loving care within our children’s ministry area. Our programs are designed to help nurture children as they grow in their faith.
What does the Bible say about parent/child dedication?
The tradition of parent /child dedication has ancient origins in the Bible. The Israelites, on the 8th day of a child’s life, brought their children to the priest for a blessing. Hannah brought Samuel to Eli, the priest, to dedicate him to the Lord (1 Samuel 1:21-28). Mary and Joseph brought baby Jesus to the temple for his dedication (Luke 2:21-40).
What does a parent/child dedication service look like at The Journey?
We are hosting our annual Parent and Child Dedication service on May 10th, at 10am. By offering this event on a Saturday morning, there is plenty of space for families to invite friends and loved ones to come and be a witness to this special occasion.
During this informal ceremony, each participating family will be invited onto the stage and the parent(s) intentions will be presented to those in attendance. A personalized certificate and small gift will be given. After the service, we invite everyone to stay for light refreshments (cupcakes and Goldfish crackers, of course) and to take advantage of our photo booth. You can register for our upcoming Parent and Child Dedication service here.
