Baptism

Baptism is one of the most meaningful and powerful steps you can take in your journey with Jesus—and a step we love celebrating at The Journey!

The word “baptism” comes from a Greek word that means to dip or submerge. When someone is baptized by immersion—briefly going under the water—it’s a picture of Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection. As Romans 6:4 says, we are “buried with Him through baptism into death” and raised to “walk in newness of life.”

In other words, baptism is a moment where you publicly step into a new identity. It marks leaving your old life behind and beginning a new life with Jesus.

From the very beginning of the church, baptism has been the first, joyful act of someone stepping into new life with Jesus. In the Bible, we see that Jesus was baptized, He called His followers to be baptized, and then the early church consistently practiced baptism. We continue that same practice today.

Baptism is a gift: a tangible moment you can look back on and remember what God has done in your life.
