our Mission & Vision

Over fifty years ago, in 1974, 31 charter members started a church called Central Christian Church here in Springfield, Virginia. A group of people who came together to start a church based on the desire to see more and more people love and follow Jesus in this area. Five incredible decades later we are still living out that same mission today!

Mission: To help people take their nexts steps towards Jesus

Vision: The Journey is a movement of people on mission together to help more and more people love and follow Jesus in Northern Virginia.

our values

For the ONE

We embody the heart and mission of Jesus, who consistently sought out the ONE - those who were lost, forgotten or distant from God. Over and over, God demonstrated his mission to seek and save the lost, and our desire is to see more and more people love and follow Jesus.

Better Together

Our individual gifts and strengths work better when we use them in relationship with others, aligned together on a common mission.

Roll Up your Sleeves

We move beyond good intentions to actively engage in the work that needs to be done in the church and in our neighborhoods. We are called not just to be spectators, but to be the hands and feet of Jesus in our daily lives.

Tag, You’re It

Leadership and discipleship aren’t meant to be carried out by a chosen few, but shared and multiplied. We identify, equip, and empower others to grow as leaders and disciples.

GOD

God is the Creator, sovereign over creation. God eternally exists in three persons:

the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.

JESUS

Jesus is the Son of God, who died for the sins of humanity

and resurrected from death to give us the hope for an eternal relationship with God.

HUMANKIND
Human beings are made in the image of God.  As image-bearers of God, every person matters to God.

We are God’s supreme purpose for creation.

SALVATION
Salvation is a gift from God. We are saved by grace through faith because Jesus paid sin’s penalty on the cross.

Humanity’s role is to receive this gift, believe in it, and submit to Jesus as Lord in every aspect of our lives

BAPTISM

Baptism - by immersion - symbolizes the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. Baptism is the public declaration that one has accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.  Baptism was modeled by Jesus, commanded by Jesus, and practiced by the New Testament church. Biblically, whenever someone believed and repented, they were baptized.

COMMUNION

Communion, or the Lord’s Supper, is an ordinance given to all believers by Jesus Christ

who regularly remember His sacrifice for us and to symbolize the new covenant.

The elements of bread and juice are symbols of Christ’s body and shed blood.

SCRIPTURE
Through the Bible the character and will of God are revealed to humanity. Penned by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit, the Bible is truth and without error in what it intends to say. The Bible is the supreme source of truth for what Christians believe and how we live. When understood and practiced,

the Bible defines love and leads us to love God and people better.

CHURCH
The church is the body of Christ, of which Jesus Christ is the head. It is made up of imperfect people

doing all they can to live out the mission of Jesus here on earth.
